*ROYAL OLD CITY OF WSCHOWA*
   THE CULTURAL EUROPEAN HARITAGE OF WSCHOWA

(5kB)       In spite of all the stormy momrnt in the history, not always favourable for its development, Wschowa is now one of most picteresque towns in Poland.

Until now, it has remained its medieval space system. Its fundamental part is the square market. (34kB) Wschowa with its architecture full of medieval elements has a lot of monuments.

           Some of the most important are:

    ^ Fara Church - the main town church-built in the second part of the XV-th century and reconstructed several times;

    ^ Church and Monastery of Bernardins order (today Franciscans) built in the years 1638-1646;

    ^ Past-Lutheran complex dating from beginning of the XVII-th century and comprissing Protestant Church, Tower, School and Minister's Hause;(104kB)

    ^ Jesuistic Collegium stared in 1727 after an adaptation of the previous mint house;

    ^ Royal Old Castle dating from the XIII-th and XIV-th centuries that was reconstructe several times;

    ^ City walls from the XV-th century;

    ^ the Town hall in the present state given in the years 1860 - 1870;

    ^ Renaissance houses from the XVI-th cebtury reconstructed un the years 1687 - 1689. Now housing the Museum of Wschowa region;

    ^ system of urban fortifications, the preserved system medieval city walls built in the period of the XIV-th century to middle of XVII-th century, with one gate "Brama Polska" (at present tower in the Post-Lutheran Church);

    ^ the town fountain with a baroque sculpture from thę second part of the XVIII-th century;

    ^ a complex of tombs and tomb stones from the Protestant cementary (Lapidarium) founded in 1609.

Other objects of historical value and worth seeing are the monuments churches and palace in Dębowa Łęka, Konradowo, Lgiń, Łysiny, Osowa Sień, Przyczyna Górna, Tylewice and Siedlnica.
